No. 23 Washington Falls To South Carolina In Mary Nutter Debut

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The No. 23 Washington softball team (7-4, 0-0 Big Ten) opened up play at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Thursday in Cathedral City, falling to No. 22 South Carolina 1-8.
South Carolina scored four runs in the second inning to jump out to an early lead, with two more coming in the fourth.
An Alexis DeBoer RBI single to center field brought in Ava Carroll in the top of the fifth, the first and only run for the Huskies on the afternoon.
The Gamecocks brought in two more scores in the bottom of the fifth to seal the deal.
Washington returns for day two of Mary Nutter action on Friday, Feb. 20 with an 8 p.m. matchup with Saint Mary's.
