
Washington Fights To The Finish In Battle With Nebraska

SEATTLE β The Washington women's basketball team fought all the way until the very end, but came up just short to Nebraska, 66-65, in Alaska Airlines Arena.
Sunday afternoon was a meaningful one for the 6,212 in attendance, as the Huskies celebrated the five members of their senior class β Elle Ladine, Hannah Stines, Teagan Brown, Shayla Gillmer, and Yulia Grabovskaia.
Each senior was recognized in a postgame ceremony, as Washington fans had the opportunity to recognize Coach Langley's first recruiting class β a group that spent all four seasons of their collegiate career on Montlake. Together, they have helped usher in a transformation of the Huskies' program and culture, including the return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016-17 and upset wins against two opponents ranked in the Top 15 of the NET this season.
Avery Howell moved into a tie for fourth place in the Big Ten with her seventh double-double of the season, notching 13 points and 10 rebounds. She continues to be effective from deep, finishing 3-for-6 from behind the line.
Sayvia Sellers finished with 14 points and two assists against the Huskers. Sunday marked the 18th time this season she's either finished with or tied for the team lead in points.
Brynn McGaughy matched her total, notching 14 points while adding on another nine rebounds. McGaughy has impressed against stiff competition, with the game against Nebraska marking the seventh time this season she's finished in double-digits against a Big Ten opponent.
Elle Ladine, on Senior Day, was the fourth Husky to finish in double figures, taking on another 10 points to supplement her seven rebounds and two assists. It marks the 62nd time in her career she's finished with 10 or more points in a game, a mark that sits 14th in program history.
Senior Hannah Stines also extended the celebration to the court, notching nine points, eight rebounds, and seven assists against the Huskers. The assist total sets a new season-high for Stines.
Washington was dominant on the boards against Nebraska, outrebounding the visiting side, 46 to 28. Sunday marked the 11th time this season the Huskies have outrebounded a Big Ten opponent.
The Huskies have an extended break before hitting the road again to face Oregon on Sunday, March 1. Game time is TBD.
