Hannes Steinbach Earns All-Big Ten Honors
March 10, 2026 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – On the eve of the Washington men's basketball team's Big Ten Tournament opener versus USC, Husky rookie big man Hannes Steinbach has added All-Big Ten honors to his growing list of plaudits from the season.
The Würzburg, Germany, native was named Third Team All-Big Ten by the conference's coaches and media on Tuesday, while also landing on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Steinbach was also named Second Team All-Big Ten by the Associated Press.
Steinbach becomes Washington's first-ever All-Big Ten honoree and the first Husky freshman to earn an all-conference nod since Isaiah Stewart in 2020.
The freshman forward is in the midst of one of the most prolific seasons ever seen on Montlake, ranking second in the nation with 20 double doubles in 28 career games, the most by a Big Ten freshman dating back to 1996-97. Steinbach has put up his biggest efforts in the biggest moments, with 10-of-12 games with 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds coming against Big Ten opposition.
Steinbach is on pace to post the 19th season in program history averaging a double double and would become the first Husky freshman to accomplish the feat.
The Würzburg Baskets product has proven to be one of the great rebounders across the college landscape, ranking second in the nation at 11.6 rebounds per game, sitting seventh in the Big Ten at 18.6 points per game.
Additionally, Husky sophomore guard Zoom Diallo was Washington's representative on the Big Ten All-Sportsmanship Team.
The No. 12 seed, Washington begins the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday, taking on 13th-seeded USC at approximately 11:30 a.m. PT at the United Center in Chicago. Wednesday's game will be available for streaming on Peacock and will air on NBCSN. Links to live coverage are available on GoHuskies.com.
