No. 18 Washington Sweeps SMC Spring Fling Weekend

MORAGA, Cali. – No. 18 Washington Beach Volleyball wrapped up a week of play from the SMC Spring Fling hosted by Saint Mary's College in Moraga, California. The Huskies would go undefeated in the four matches over the weekend. As they would open with Saint Mary's with a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon. Following that up with an impressive 5-0 decision over the University of the Pacific. Sunday would see the Beach Dawgs win in a morning matchup, 5-0, again over Pacific. Washington would close the weekend with another 3-2 win over the Gaels.

The Huskies would open the weekend from Moraga against St. Mary's, where they would earn a 3–2 victory by way of points earned by Ella Tyus/Zoe Pabarcus, who won in straight sets. This performance would be followed by a pair of third-set thrillers as Sarah Wilcock/Mariana Tomasova and Alina Urzua/Avery Towne would go to score the next pair of points for the Beach Dawgs with Alina and Avery clinching the victory with two matches to play.

Following a short intermission, as the Huskies would draw the back-to-back matchup, Washington would take the court again. This time, against the University of the Pacific Tigers. This short break did little to quell the Huskies, as they put on a dominant performance, with 5-0 victory over the Tigers. As the the Beach Dawgs would sweep the match in straight sets, highlighted by Ella Tyus and Ellis Hay's 21-6, 21-8 victory.

Washington would return to the sand for a Sunday morning rematch with Pacific, however little would change in that affair. As the Huskies would again sweep these Tigers 5-0, with 4 of the five matches ending in straight sets. Zoe Pabarcus and Alina Urzua would go to clinch the match at 3-0 with Katarina Pantovic and Emma Hohenauer & Mayamay Brown and Avery Towne following with their respective wins shortly after.

In the fourth and final match of the weekend, the Beach Dawgs would have yet another rematch, this time with Saint Mary's. This match, much like the first, would end in a 3-2 Huskies win, with the final two matches deciding the outcome, rather than being a formality. As the match was clinched by Katarina Pantovic and Emma Hahenaver, after a close match, which saw the Huskies go up 1-0 from an Ella Tyrus and Zoe Pabarcus victory in a three-set performance. The Huskies would earn the second point of the match with a Mayamay Brown and Ellis Hay straight set sweep to go up 2-0. The Gaels would then come back with a point of their own, making this a 2-1 match, before the Huskies duo of Katarina Pantovic and Emma Hahenaver would clinch the match before the Gaels would score the game's final point.

The Huskies have the next weekend off from play and will return to action the weekend of April 3rd, with a trip to Austin, Texas, for the Longhorn Showdown.
The Huskies are scheduled to face Houston Christian, Texas, and Tulane over the weekend, with the first matchup against Houston Christian being on Friday, April 3rd at 1 pm PT.
