Summer Track Action Rolling In Ireland

SEATTLE – The Cork City Sports track meet in Cork, Ireland held an unofficial Husky track reunion today, with a number of Huskies past and present racing. Victories were taken by recent grad Reuben Reina and 2025 grad Amina Maatoug, and rising sophomore Owen Powell ran under the World U20 Championships standard in the 3,000-meters to earn a spot on Team USA.
Maatoug, a four-time All-American in her one season as a Husky, won the 3k in 8:45.72, and close behind in third-place with a big eight-second PR was senior Julia David-Smith in 8:46.90. Mia Cochran also posted a four-second PR of 8:53.34.
Powell took third in the 3k at the USA U20 Championships but needed to run under the standard of 8:04, and he did that today with a 7:59.94 time to finish sixth. The World U20 meet is in Eugene this year from August 5-9.
Former Husky NCAA Champion Sophie O'Sullivan was third in the women's 800-meters in a time of 2:01.33, and her former teammate and recent UW grad Chloe Foerster was seventh in 2:02.18.
Reina powered to the victory in the men's mile with a fast time of 3:54.08. Current Husky All-American Thom Diamond was sixth in 4:00.62.
Many of these Huskies will remain in Ireland, heading to Dublin to compete again this Friday in the Morton Games.
