Six Dawgs Set For World U20 Championships

SEATTLE – The best under-20 athletes in the world converge in Eugene this week for the World U20 Championships at Hayward Field. Two current Huskies and four incoming first-years will step onto the track to represent their nations before they represent UW later this year.
Action starts on Wednesday, Aug. 5 and wraps up on Sunday, Aug. 9. Peacock will stream the competition each day.
Owen Powell and Chloe Symon are the two second-year Dawgs prepping to compete. Powell is the one Husky on Team USA this week, and he will run the 3,000-meters on Friday.
Symon, running for Canada, is one of three current or future Huskies in the women's 800-meters. She will be joined by Canadian teammate Mary MacLean, the Canadian U20 Champion earlier this year, and Saoirse Fitzgerald, who won the Ireland U20 400m title and was fourth in the senior 800-meter championship. Those women's 800-meters first round races go on Wednesday at 1:15 p.m.
Soon-to-be teammates Milla Roberts of Australia and Sherry Drury of Japan will race in the women's 1,500-meters. The first round for the 1,500m is on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
