SEATTLE -- Returning home with a five match winning streak to start the season, the Huskies extended their run to six back at Alaska Airlines Arena, with a sweep against Lipscomb by a 25-14, 25-16, 25-21 count.

"I was happy with how we came out in the first two sets," said Head Coach Leslie Gabriel. "One of our keys to the match is we wanted to serve tough because we knew they wanted to set their quick a ton. We felt if we could do that it would help our block, and I thought we did a good job with that. But we're still working on trying to get a complete match. We made too many errors in that third set that we hadn't seen in the first two, but it was good to get the 'W'."

Washington finished the night with 41 kills and a .278 attack percentage, while holding Lipscomb to a .071 hitting percentage. Second-year Simona Mateska led the Huskies with 16 kills while hitting .448, while first-year Kylie Kleckner added 10 kills and eight digs. Second-year Julia Hunt finished with six kills while hitting .444 and added five blocks, and second-year Maija Howse recorded five kills and three blocks. Fourth-year Katy Wessels contributed at the net with two kills and four blocks. Second-year Andrea Fabikovicová totaled 31 assists and 10 digs, while first-year Kaitlyn Nguyen led the back row with 15 digs.

The Huskies saw Maija Howse, Julia Hunt, and Simona Mateska up at the net and Andrea Fabikovicová, Katy Wessels, and Kylie Kleckner defending the back with Kaitlyn Nguyen at libero to start the match against Lipscomb.

The Dawgs got off to a strong start with three straight kills, starting with Maija Howse, followed by Kylie Kleckner and Simona Mateska. Kleckner kept the momentum going with another kill, pushing the Huskies to a three-point lead at 5-2. Point six for Washington saw the fifth kill of the night from Julia Hunt, followed quickly by another kill for point seven. Wessels extended the Huskies lead with the first block of the night, before yet another kill for a 10-5 lead over the Bisons. A quick dump over the net from Andrea Fabikovicová pushes the Huskies into a seven-point lead at 13-6. With a 15-7 lead for Washington, Lipscomb gained momentum, pushing to nine points before Julia Hunt took it back with a kill to total 16-9. Addy Azavedo entered the match to serve, starting a long rally that ended with a smackdown from Kleckner for the 18-11 lead. Kaitlyn Nguyen held down the back row with back-to-back digs, leading with seven in the first set. A back-and-forth jousting competition at the net resulted in a win for Mateska, further securing the 20-13 lead. Mateska closed out the opening set in style, recording three consecutive kills as the Huskies took the set 25-14.

Mateska opened the second set with a kill, before Wessels and Kleckner teamed up for the Huskies' third block of the night. The Bisons responded with a strong run, taking their first lead of the night at 4-2, but Howse answered with a kill to bring the Huskies within one. Kleckner followed with the first ace of the night to tie the set at 5-5. The Bisons continued to push, taking an 11-8 lead, before Kleckner and Wessels teamed up again for a block, followed by a Hunt and Howse block that brought the Huskies within one at 11-10. Washington then regained their offensive momentum, with kills from Kleckner and Mateska to tie the set at 12-12. Addy Azavedo took over from behind the service line, recording back-to-back aces to put the Huskies back in front, before another Kleckner kill made a 15-12 lead. A Mateska dig set up yet another Kleckner kill, followed with a Hunt kill and Mateska back row kill for an 18-12 advantage. Fabikovicová and Kleckner continued the run with kills, before Fabikovicová added a block to push the Huskies to 21-13. Mateska recorded the final kill of the set, before a Lipscomb error closed out the set, 25-16.

Fabikovicová opened the third set with an ace, before the Huskies and Bisons battled back and forth. Hunt put up a wall in the middle with a block to give Washington a 5-4 lead, followed with a Howse block and kill to extend the advantage to 7-4. Hunt continued to make an impact, recording a kill and an ace as the Huskies pushed ahead, 9-6. Lipscomb battled to come within one at 14-13, but Kleckner ended the run with a kill. The Bisons tied the set, before Hunt's swing put the Huskies back in front, 17-16. Lipscomb responded once again, taking a 20-19 lead, but Mateska came through with a kill to give Washington the ball back and close out the set, to win 25-21 and complete the sweep.

Up Next: Washington will now have a couple days to prep for the Apple Cup rivalry, with Washington State coming to town this Sunday. The Huskies and Cougars meet for the third time as non-conference foes at 2 p.m. in Alaska Airlines Arena, streaming live on Big Ten Plus.
