Ounap Finishes Tied For Second, Huskies Runners Up In Ben Connell Ram Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Washington closed out the Ben Connell Ram Classic on Tuesday in second place at four-under, one of five teams to finish under par at Ptarmigan Golf and Country Club.
"I'm incredibly proud of the team's effort this week," head coach Anna Temple said. "We learned a lot from our first event at Chambers Bay. We were able to take the positives from that event and bring them into this event while still improving on some things that can continue to get better. This tournament was a total team effort with everyone contributing to our team score."
Three Huskies cracked the top 20 individually, led by Hannah Ounap's tied second-place finish out of 79 players. Ounap closed with an even-par final round to finish at six-under, capping off her strong two-day start.
"Hannah finishing in second place in the second event of her collegiate career is an awesome accomplishment," Temple said. "Athena's 66 in round two was an amazing accomplishment, especially with only four players in our lineup."
Athena Ni was the next Husky in the top 20, turning in a five-over final round to finish at even-par, tied for 12th after a career-high 66 strokes in the second round propelled her up the leaderboard.
Amber Li rounded out the Huskies in the top 20, carding a one-over round in the finale to finish at one-over, tied for 19th.
Wendy Tang posted an even-par final round to finish at seven-over, tied for 41st.
"Wendy and Amber had solid rounds each day that really kept us going," Temple added.
Mads Smith opened the tournament with 74 strokes in round one but missed round two due to injury. She returned for the final round, carding 73 strokes, though she did not post an official tournament finish.
"The fight for Mads, battling through an injury and competing in two of the three rounds, was inspiring to the entire team," Temple said.
Next up for the Dawgs is international travel to Scotland for the St. Andrews Links Collegiate, set for Oct. 12-14.
"We have some time at home before our next event, which we're looking forward to -- competing in Saint Andrews -- and will continue to build on the progress we've made so far."
