Ounap Tied For First, Dawgs In Second After Two Rounds In Centennial State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Two Huskies broke into the top five to start the second tournament of the season. Washington women's golf team carded 15 birdies in round one and 19 birdies and an eagle in round two, ending the day six-under-par in second place through 36 holes Monday at the Ben Connell Ram Classic.
Hannah Ounap led the way, posting back-to-back under-par rounds. She followed a two-under-par round one with a four-under in the afternoon to sit at a total of six-under through two rounds. Ounap currently sits tied for first place of 76 players going into round three.
The second player in the top five was Athena Ni, who carded the low round of the day for the Huskies. Ni recorded her career high of 66 strokes in round two, including an eagle on the 16th hole after she opened at one-over-par. She sits at five-under, in fifth place entering the third round.
"Today was a solid day," head coach Anna Temple said. "Our first round got us off to a good start and the team really pulled together in the second round. We struggled a bit last week with our second round, so it was great to see the bounce back today. We did a good job managing our controllables and tomorrow will be a great opportunity to continue building on that."
Amber Li battled back from a two-over in the morning with a two-under in the afternoon to finish the day at even-par, tied for 19th.
Wendy Tang turned in rounds of four-over and three-over-par to sit at seven-over through two rounds.
Mads Smith opened the tournament with 74 strokes but did not finish her second round due to injury.
The third and final round of the Ben Connell Ram Classic is scheduled to tee off Tuesday morning at Ptarmigan Golf and Country Club with a shotgun start at 7:45 a.m.
