Washington Closes Season Opener Tied For Eighth At Chambers Bay

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Washington climbed two spots to finish tied for eighth with a team score of +24, closing out the season-opening Leadership and Golf Invitational with the third and final round at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
First year Hannah Ounap posted the low round of the day for Washington and was the only Husky to finish under par in round three, carding two-under-par. Her round moved her to five-over for the tournament, tied for 23rd overall to finish her debut invitational with Washington.
Amber Li finished the tournament with the best individual finish for the Huskies, carding an one-over-par final round to finish tied for 17th place with a total score of four-over-par.
"Today was a solid round," said head coach Anna Temple. "We improved and had one of the better team scores of the day and we want to do that more consistently going forward. Solid rounds by Amber and Hannah really set us up well and everyone in the lineup has the ability to contribute and to do that more consistently across all three rounds will be a good thing going forward."
Mads Smith carded a 76 in round three to finish the tournament at six-over, tied for 27th. Wendy Tang also posted a 76 in the final round, closing out the tournament at nine-over, tied for 40th.
Athena Ni rounded out the Husky lineup with another 76 in round three, finishing the tournament at +20 in 81st place.
Washington now turns its attention to the Ben Connell Ram Classic set to begin September 21 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
