Abbie Hughes was named Assistant Coach of the Husky Beach Volleyball program in 2025, joining Washington after a highly successful tenure at Arizona State University and an accomplished collegiate playing career at Grand Canyon University and Florida International University.
Hughes spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons on the Arizona State Beach Volleyball staff, first joining the Sun Devils in July of 2023 as a volunteer assistant before being elevated to assistant coach for the 2024 season. During her two years in Tempe, ASU enjoyed back-to-back nationally ranked finishes and some of the most successful seasons in program history.
In 2025, Hughes helped guide the Sun Devils to a record-breaking 22-win season, highlighted by seven victories over ranked opponents. ASU reached the finals of the inaugural Big 12 Beach Volleyball Championships and finished the year ranked No. 12 in the AVCA Coaches Poll, matching its highest year-end ranking. She coached Samaya Morin to AVCA All-America Second Team honors and mentored three athletes who earned Big 12 All-Conference recognition.
Her first season with ASU in 2024 marked a major breakthrough for the program. The Sun Devils posted 21 wins, earned an NCAA Tournament berth, and recorded 11 ranked victories, each a program record at the time. Hughes coached Daniella Kensinger and Ava Williamson to the first AVCA All-America honors in program history and supported Williamson and Arden Besecker in earning AVCA Top Flight awards.
Before transitioning into coaching, Hughes enjoyed a standout collegiate career. At Grand Canyon University, she was an AVCA Second Team All-American, earned AVCA Top Flight recognition, and collected numerous victories over top-20 opponents, including an NCAA Tournament win. Prior to her time at GCU, she competed at Florida International University, where she excelled as a dual-sport athlete in both beach and indoor volleyball and earned multiple Conference USA honors.
Hughes steps into her role immediately as she joins the program in preparation for the upcoming 2026 season.
