Huskies Down Evansville, 2-1, In Adidas Portland Invitational

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Washington men's soccer team, ranked 11th by the NSCAA, scored two goals and held the Evansville Aces scoreless through most of the match to pick up its first win of the season. UW won, 2-1, on the first day of the adidas Portland Invitational. The Huskies, 1-0-1, will take on Marquette on Monday at noon.
Washington struck first at 15:27, when a shot by junior Kai Carroll ricocheted off an Evansville player into the goal. A second Husky shot came at 60:07, when sophomore Bryn Ritchie headed in classmate Benjamin Somoza's corner kick.
Evansville finally managed a shot on goal in the 80th minute, netting a goal at 86:46. Mike Robards punched a pass from Ricardo Guedes into the lower left corner of the goal.
UW's Chad Olsen had two saves in the game, while Evansville's Edward Moore had seven. The Huskies took 14 shots to UE's six and held a 9-3 corner-kick advantage.
