Isaacson Homers As Huskies Beat WSU, 7-3

SEATTLE - The 25th-ranked Washington baseball team scored four runs in the third and held on for a 7-3 win over Washington State in front of 1,406 fans Friday night at Husky Ballpark. The win evened the three-game Pac-10 series at one win apiece.
Washington (19-9-1 overall, 5-3 in the Pac-10) held the Cougar hitters to only five hits on the night, after having lost the opener, 9-1, on Thursday. WSU's record dropped to 20-10 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Cougar junior starter Bryce Chamberlin (6-1) suffered his first loss of the year, allowing five runs on seven hits over four and one-third innings. He walked only one and struck out six. Washington senior reliever Trent Baysinger (3-2) picked up the victory, entering the game in the fourth and going the distance, throwing five and one-third innings. He allowed one run on five hits.
The Huskies broke out for to a four-run lead in the third. With two outs and John Otness aboard at second base, Brent Lillibridge smashed a hard-grounder that went off the glove of diving first baseman Grant Richardson, allowing Otness to score and Lillibridge to end up at second with a double.
Second baseman Greg Isaacson followed, driving a ball out to straight-away center field, his fourth home run of the year. After Zach Clem reached on a walk, freshman designated hitter Matt Lane doubled off the wall in right-center, driving in Clem with the UW's fourth run.
The Cougars had a chance to score in the second when they were issued four walks. However, a runner caught stealing and a strikeout to end the inning left the bases loaded.
In the fourth, Husky freshman starter Kyle Parker, who didn't allow a hit in three and two-thirds innings, again walked the bases loaded with two outs before being relieved by Baysinger. Baysinger went full to pinch hitter Zach Kosturos, who fought off the 3-2 pitch to loop a double over third base, scoring two runners. Keao Rubin then grounded out to end the inning with the Huskies still on top, 4-2.
Washington added a fifth run in the fifth when first baseman Kyle Larsen connected for an RBI single off of WSU reliever Dane Renkert, who had relieved Chamberlin with two aboard and one out in the fifth. In the sixth, Lillibridge singled to drive in Ben Johnson, increasing the Husky edge to 6-2.
The Cougars brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh. After singles from Jason Freeman and Jay Miller, and a walk to Grant Richardson, loaded the bases with no outs, Baysinger got DH Jeremy Farrar to ground into a double play, plating a run and then got a groundout to end the inning with only the one run scoring.
Washington tacked on their final run in the eighth when Ben Johnson walked, moved all the way to third on an errant pickoff attempt and scored on a passed ball.
Isaacson finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs batted in. Lillibridge was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Larsen was also 2-for-4.
The Huskies and Cougars will wrap up the series Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game.
