Post-game Quotes
Nevada vs. Washington
December 10, 2006
WASHINGTON HEAD COACH June Daugherty
General Comments: "I was really pleased with our defense today, we held them to only one assist and 26 turnovers. I think that what we were most concerned about was the fact that Nevada was going to come in and pressure us early. They like to create their offense through defense and we only had 14 turnovers. I thought we did a much better job with that and we opened up some easy shots as opposed to forcing the more difficult ones. We're quick and we're ahead of schedule. Nevada and Texas A&M at this point will be the two best defensive teams that we have gone against and that is why we play this type of schedule, to get our players ready for the Pac-10. Overall I was real pleased.
On Plouffe and Banks health: "The thing right now is to get healthy. She has made some great strides and we are excited to get her back out there. Banks is coming along slowly, but we need to get healthy.
On defense and rotations: "Tonight I thought that we did a good job with our transition defense and I think that has been a sore subject for us. I thought that our locations were a lot quicker and our match-up zones were more of a player to player. We just need to get quicker and better with our rotations. We could have been a little tougher on the boards tonight, but to me it's more about us improving all the way around. I am excited about the way we are playing and I think that our competitive schedule is paying off."
On Cameo Hicks: "I like the fact that Cameo Hicks has fought through all the adversity. The rebounding hasn't been the way that some people thought it would be, but she has that bruised knee. Tonight she got a little better and was back on the boards. We are proud and excited for her to get back into the mix again."
Guard Cameo Hicks
On her limitations on playing: "I do as much as I can in practice. I am a little winded in practice, but I don't really think about it when I am playing. It is just something in the back of my mind."
On assists: "That is one thing that we focus on in practice. We have great offensive system, and if we just work the ball, and hit our open people, we are going to knock down shots. And so that is one thing we have really focused on, and improved on. Just being more patient in our offence, and executing, and we are getting more looks for our teammates."
On the team: "We know we have a lot of work to do, but we are making great strides. It all started at Ohio State I think there we just regrouped as a team. We weren't playing as hard as we would have liked to. We were not executing offensively and defensively, but I think we are on the right page, but still we have a lot of work to do. I am excited for the team. We are looking really good, and we are improving. And that is the most important."
Forward/Center Jill Bell
On rebounding: "No, I just go out there and try to rebound. I know that it is one of my strengths. So I try to help the team in that aspect, and just play as hard as I can every night."
On the team: "I think we are doing a great job. We are improving in practice. Our intensity has been a little more consistent. We just have to clean up our turnovers, but I think we are doing a great job. We have to more tough pre-season games, and we are looking good so far."
Guard Stefanie Clark
On being comfortable out there: "As you practice more and more, you get more familiar with the offense and the game plan, and what we are trying to do. With that comes comfort and assertiveness."
On her defense: "It is going ok. There are things that I want to do better on defense. Like pressure the ball more, and get the system down. I don't have the system down. We have a team full of great girls. I am really pleased with our whole team's defense. We are getting it done."
