Husky Men Finish Runner-Up At Alister MacKenzie Invitational

FAIRFAX, Calif. - After leading the field by seven strokes heading into today's final round, the Washington men's golf team finished runner-up at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational hosted by California at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif., Tuesday.
The Huskies ended the tournament at 20-under 832, but recorded a final round score of 7-over 291. San Diego State shot a scorching final round mark of 8-under 276, the best of the day, to win the tournament. It marked the second-straight second-place finish for UW which finished runner-up at its own tournament, the Husky Invitational, last week.
Leading the way for the Huskies were senior Zach Bixler and sophomore Darren Wallace, both tying for eighth place at 7-under 206. Just one day after matching an NCAA single-round record with an 11-under 60, Bixler shot a 4-over 75 in Tuesday's final round. Wallace shot the best round of the day for UW with a 1-under 70.
UW sophomore Nick Taylor finished 5-under 208 and in a tie for 15th. After shooting two rounds of sub-70 on Monday, Taylor ended the tournament with a 1-over 73. Junior John Wise tied for 42nd (1-over 214) and freshman Tze Huang Choo tied for 70th (9-over 222).
Louisville's Daryl Fathauer won medalist honors finishing 13-under 200. Fresno State's Todd Angel (11-under 202) and San Diego State's Aaron Goldberg (9-under 204) placed second and third, respectively.
Washington has one more fall tournament on its docket, co-hosting the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Wash., Oct. 21-22.
