
Men's Golfers Fall To Ninth At GADO North Texas Classic

NUEVO VALLARTA, Mexico - After sitting in second place after the first two rounds, the Huskies fell to ninth with a final-round score of 19-over 307 at the GADO North Texas Classic at the Flamingos Golf Club in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, Monday.
The Huskies finished the 54-hole tournament at 22-over 886, despite turning in a 3-over 291 and an even-par 288 during the first two rounds on Sunday. Louisiana Lafayette won the event as the only team to finish under par at 16-under 848. Cal State Northridge was second (6-over 870) and New Orleans was third (8-over 872).
Kyle Nicolson of Cal State Northridge claimed medalist honors at 9-under 207, besting Jose Toledo of New Orleans by two strokes (7-under 209). Nicolson shot a final-round score of 5-under 67 after opening round scores of 3-under 69 and 1-under 71.
Sophomore Nick Taylor was the Huskies' leader wire-to-wire, finishing 17th on the individual leaderboard at 3-over 219. Taylor carded a final-round score of 5-over 77 following rounds of even-par 72 and 2-under 70 on Sunday. He began the day in a tie for fifth place, just two shots behind the leaders.
Joining Taylor in the Top-25 were sophomore Darren Wallace and senior Zach Bixler. Wallace and Bixler had the best rounds of the final day with identical scores of 4-over 76. Wallace finished the tournament tied for 21st at 5-over 221, while Bixler was right behind him tied for 23rd at 6-over 222.
Freshman Tze Huang Choo tied for 48th (13-over 229) and junior John Wise tied for 50th (14-over 230). Freshman Kevin Spooner played as an individual, placing 71st (46-over 262).
Up next for the Huskies will be the USC Collegiate to be held at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., March 3-4.
