Williams Notches Fourth Top-10 This Season

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. -- The USC Intercollegiate strikes again.
The 54-hole tournament historically has been a tough place for Matt Thurmond's Huskies to play and this year was no different.
Washington finished at +29 overall and 12th out of 15 teams competing. The Huskies combined to shoot a 7-over 291 in the final round.
"We're frustrated and disappointed, as you'd expect. The guys played hard, we just weren't very good as a whole this week," said Thurmond, whose team has finished 2nd, 10th, 13th, 6th, 7th, 4th, 6th, and 10th in the past at North Ranch C.C.
Sophomore Chris Williams was once again a bright spot for the Huskies. He managed to hold onto a top-10 finish, tying for 8th out of 80 competitors, despite stumbling down the stretch.
Williams was at -2 for the round on Tuesday but bogeyed three of his last five holes to finish the day at +1. Overall he shot a 1-over 214.
"He played pretty well, but he didn't finish very strong. He's so mad right now that he can't see straight," said Thurmond.
"He knows he should have won this tournament. He's frustrated, but that's how good he is...he can feel like he gave a tournament away and still finish in the top-10."
UCLA's Patrick Cantlay, the Pac-10 Golfer of the Month for February, took home medalist honors at -6 overall.
San Diego State won the team portion of the tournament at -2. UCLA was second at even par.
UW sophomore Charlie Hughes tied for 14th and equaled the best round by a Husky today with an even-par 71. Freshman Trevor Simsby equaled his 71 and ended up 48th.
Cory McElyea tied for 68th and Ty Chambers tied for 75th.
