SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Freshman Trevor Simsby was 4-over par to lead all UW golfers and Washington was 12th as a team before darkness cut short the planned 36-holes of golf on Saturday in the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.

Heavy fog delayed the start of the morning round by a couple hours and only one of the 15 teams competing were able to finish their second round. What was already a long day at the par 70, 6,615-yard golf course became even longer for the Huskies when their scores started to balloon.

The wind wreaked havoc on the field in the afternoon and the Huskies had trouble adjusting.

Simsby had a morning round of 74 and was even through 15 holes before the sun disappeared. He went into the clubhouse tied for 25th.

After Simsby, the next best total of the day was turned in by Chris Williams. He shot a 2-under 68 in the morning -- good enough to tie himself for seventh -- but was +7 through 16 holes in the afternoon. Williams currently is tied for 28th at +5.

Kevin Spooner ended the day tied for 52nd at +8 with three holes still to play. He shot a 74 in the opening round and was +4 in round two.

Tze Huang Choo is currently tied for 62nd, Charlie Hughes is tied for 77th and Cory McElyea is tied for 81st.

Choo shot a 70 in the morning but was +10 in the second round with one hole left to play. Hughes opened with a 75 and was +10 in the afternoon. McElyea opened with an 11-over 81 and was +5 in the second round with one hole left.

UCLA is the only team that is under par at -2 in the six player, count five scores format. Stanford's Andrew Yun is -3 and took a one-stroke lead into the clubhouse.

The competitors will try to complete the second round starting at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday and then will play the third and final round immediately following.
