Big Fourth Inning Powers UW Over Beavers

CORVALLIS, Ore. – With just three regular season games left before Selection Sunday, the Huskies headed to Corvallis, Ore., this weekend looking to get back on track and have a shot to host NCAA Regionals next week. UW is No. 15/14 in this week's polls and No. 11 in the RPI. The first three innings were scoreless but the Huskies had a huge fourth inning and came away with a 6-1 victory over the host Oregon State Beavers Thursday night.
UW improves to 33-13 overall, 11-6 on the road and 8-11 in the Pac-10. Oregon State drops to 18-27 and 1-18.
Senior Morgan Stuart (Riverside, Calif.) led the Huskies with three hits on the day. UW had 10 total hits against two Beaver pitchers. OSU's starter, Paige Hall, got the loss.
“It was good to be back in the groove of putting pressure on the defense,” Stuart said. “The win is the result of us having a good week of preparation and executing our plan.”
Freshman Kaitlin Inglesby, playing just south of her hometown of Portland, Ore., picked up her 21st win of the year and 16 complete game. She allowed just two hits and the run was unearned.
In the fourth inning, Stuart singled and scored with two outs on an error. After an infield single by senior Jenn Salling (Port Coquitlam, B.C.) the bases were loaded for junior Niki Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) who drove in another Husky. Inglesby singled for the final two runs of the inning.
In the fifth, sophomore Maggie Wagner (Woodinville, Wash.) singled to the pitcher and scored on two wild pitches.
The final Husky run came in the sixth with one out. Freshman Marki Creger-Zier pinch ran for Inglesby who singled. She stole second and scored on an RBI single up the middle by sophomore Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.).
OSU got its lone run in the sixth on an error.
Game two on Saturday will also air live on 1150 AM KKNW at 3 p.m.
