Huskies Happy With Play At Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. -No. 2 Stanford kept its winning streak alive, defeating the visiting Washington Huskies 3-0 Sunday night in Palo Alto, Calif., on the Pac-12 Networks.
Washington is 9-6-2 overall and 2-5-1 in Pac-12 play. Stanford remains perfect in league play at 8-0-0 and is 14-1-1 overall.
The game-winner came early for the Cardinal as Courtney Verloo scored her first of two goals on the night on a penalty kick in the sixth minute.
Verloo scored her second goal in the 21st minute. She bent the ball into the goal after the corner kick and hit the back post for the score.
The final goal was a Washington own goal with just four minutes left in the game. Stanford crossed the ball into the box. The UW tried to clear but headed the ball into the net.
"I thought we played well and the goals that put us behind we're really unfortunate," said head coach Lesle Gallimore. "You can't let a team as good as Stanford be spotted two goals. Our team fought and we are proud of them. We will carry this into the game against Oregon. We are ready to win again."
Sophomore Chelsea Archer(Oakland, Calif.) had the best chance of the game for the Huskies late in the first half. She went one-on-one with Stanford goalkeeper Emily Oliver and Oliver came out to kick the ball away from Archer.
Senior Kari Davidson (Portland, Ore.) got the start in goal for the Huskies. She allowed two goals in just over 72 minutes. Freshman Megan Kufeld(Fremont, Calif.) made her third career appearance in goal. She made four great saves in 17 minute and allowed one goal.
Husky legend Hope Solo will be at Husky Soccer Field on Thursday, Oct. 25 as the UW women host Oregon at 7 p.m. Solo will sign autographs from 5:45 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. on the hill inside the gates. She will be signing her new book and the bookstore will be selling her book at the game if you don't already have your copy.
