Menti Lifts No. 11 UW to WAC/101 Club Cup Win Over Seattle U

SEATTLE – Anna Menti's rebound goal was the difference Friday night as the No. 11 Huskies won its derby matchup with Seattle U at Husky Soccer Stadium, 1-0, to retain the WAC/101 Club Cup.
With the win, Washington has completed its non-conference schedule with an undefeated record for the third time in program history. All three occasions have come under the direction of head coach Nicole Van Dyke.
The Huskies controlled possession throughout the night to earn their fourth clean sheet of the season, outshooting the Redhawks 15-6. Tanner Ijams was rarely challenged in goal, but came up with the save twice when called upon.
After probing throughout the first 45 minutes with little to show for it, the Dawgs finally broke through with less than a minute before the break.
As has been the case many times in the young season, Washington's breakthrough came off a corner kick. Andrea Leyva sent her service far post, meeting the head of Jadyn Holdenried. The fourth year's header blocked in front of goal, caroming to Ryan Boehm. Boehm's follow up struck iron, landing right at the feet of Menti, who finished into the open goal mouth.
With the lead in tow, Washington saw out the remaining 45 minutes in the second half, improving to 5-0-1 on the year heading into Big Ten play.
Washington opens conference play on its home field, hosting Maryland on Thursday, Sept. 10, for an 8:00 p.m. PT kickoff. The match will air nationally on the Big Ten Network.
