Holdenried Scores, Husky Defense Stymies In 1-0 Win Over USC
October 03, 2026 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE โ Jadyn Holdenried put No. 15 Washington up inside of three minutes Saturday night and from there, the Huskies did what they do best, suffocating USC for the full 90 for a 1-0 win at Husky Soccer Stadium.
ย
The shutout victory was the eighth of the season for Washington. Third year keeper Tanner Ijams recorded her 18th career clean sheet, moving ahead of Husky legend Hope Solo for sole possession of third place all-time at Washington.
ย
The Dawgs wasted no time jumping ahead, breaking through in the third minute.
ย
Recycling a corner kick delivery back into the mix, Samiah Shell latched onto a loose ball inside the 18th, feeding Andrea Leyva who had crept in from the corner flag. Leyva hit her pass first time, feeding the ball behind the Trojan line to setup Holdenried for the tap in.
ย
In the 21st minute, center referee Brandon Stevis was called to the monitor for a third time in the first half after Alex Buck appeared to be brought down inside the 18-yard box. Instead, the call on the field stood as UW was denied another opportunity to double its lead.
ย
UW continued to pile on the pressure throughout the opening half, seeing Maya Loudd's 1-on-1 opportunity against Trojan keeper Josie Biehl saved in the 33rd minute, with the defender's rebound attempt sailing wide of the post.
ย
Despite one-way traffic for virtually the entire first 45 minutes, Washington was forced to settle for a 1-0 lead at the break.
ย
With the lead in hand, Washington settled into more of a defensive posture, allowing the Trojans to maintain the bulk of possession in the second half. Despite this, the Dawgs continued to be the more dangerous side, forcing quality saves from Biehl to keep the USC deficit at one.
ย
After being denied by the offside flag early in the first, Shell was thwarted by the Trojan keeper early on after the restart, breaking free down the left wing but having her attempt at the near post pushed past the post.
ย
Late in the half, Washington once again came inches from the insurance goal as Buck's right footed shot was pawed away by Biehl.
ย
While unable to extend the lead throughout the match, the Huskies smothered the Trojan attack for the entirety of the affair, holding USC without an attempt on goal to move to 9-1-2 in 2026.
ย
Washington remains home for a pair of matches next week, beginning with a Thursday night battle with Iowa at Husky Soccer Stadium. The matchup will be UW's Huskies for a Cure match, kicking off at 7:00 p.m. PT and streaming live on B1G+.

About a minute after the restart, the Huskies had the ball in the back of the net again. However, Shell was ruled to have stayed just offside ahead of Ryan Boehm's slip pass, negating Washington's second.A little tiki taka action to put the Dawgs on top! ?? B1G+ https://t.co/4LfOBN9zra
