CORVALLIS, Ore. – Scoring twice inside the first 11 minutes of the match Sunday at Oregon State, No. 11 Washington thwarted a Beaver comeback attempt in the second half, earning a 2-1 win at Paul Lorenz Field.

The Huskies controlled the pace of play throughout the match, outshooting the Beavers 15-5, including 7-1 in shots on goal, and thwarting a physical OSU side that racked up 18 fouls to UW's seven.

Jadyn Holdenried's second goal of the season put the Huskies on top less than two minutes in, while Avery Nguyen doubled the advantage a few minutes later. Samiah Shell and Angelica Chou paired to setup both of UW's strikes on the day.

In the first of two goals originating from the left wing, Shell found Chou inside the 18. The second year forward drove past her defender baseline, squaring the ball to Holdenried, who cooly finished into the corner in the second minute.

Nine minutes later, Shell sent a cutback towards the top of the 18, with Chou making the deftest of backheel touches to put the ball on a platter for Nguyen. The native Kansan swung her left and hit the ball sweetly, bulging the net to make it 2-0 to the Dawgs.

Washington continued to dominate throughout the opening stanza, hitting the frame of goal multiple times, but were unable to produce a third.

The Huskies appeared to have added to their lead early on in the second half through Chou. However, the second year was ruled offside upon VAR review, chalking off a picture-perfect finish into the side netting.

Shortly thereafter, a penalty awarded to Oregon State allowed the Beavers to pull a goal back, setting up a pressure-packed final 30 minutes for UW.

However, the staunch Husky defense squashed any attempts from OSU to level the match, keeping Tanner Ijams' goal mouth clear until the final whistle.
