Three Dawgs Named All-Region

SEATTLE – Senior Jenna Orlandini, and juniors Krista Vansant and Kaleigh Nelson were all named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region Team for the Pacific North Region today. The three will now all be eligible for AVCA All-America honors.

It's the second straight honor for Vansant, who was a Second Team All-American last year and this season was named the Pac-12 Player of the Year. Nelson is a first-time selection and was also a first-time All-Pac-12 choice this year. It is also the first All-Region honor for Orlandini, the Husky libero, who was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention.

The All-Region honors followed a new selection procedure this year, as each team was made up of five outside/opposite hitters, three middle blockers, two setters, at least one libero/defensive specialist, and three at-large selections, in order to better represent more positions in the awards. Also this season, regional realignment made for a new look. All conferences of more than six teams were split into two regions, which means Washington's Pacific Region is now split between Pacific North and Pacific South, in order to “spread the elite talent in the case of an elite conference” according to the AVCA.

With three players on the 14-player team, the Huskies have their most All-Region selections since 2010.

Washington captured the 2013 Pac-12 title, and heads into the NCAA round of 16 this week in Los Angeles at USC's Galen Center. The Huskies face Kansas on Friday at 5:00 p.m. for a spot in the quarterfinals. The match will be streamed online through ESPN3.
