EUGENE, Ore. - Cole Irvin pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the 12th-ranked Oregon baseball team to a 6-0 win over Washington Saturday in the final game of a three-game series at PK Park.
The Ducks improved to 22-6 overall and 8-1 in the Pac-12, putting them atop the conference standings. Washington fell to 2-7 and 6-19.
Irvin (5-1) went the distance for the victory, limiting Washington to four singles while walking one and striking out 11.
UW starter Trevor Dunlap, who struck the side in order in the sixth inning, and from Tyler Kane, who retired all six he faced in the seventh and eighth.
Oregon got started in the first as Brett Thomas led off the opening inning by reaching on an error. After moving to second on a balk, he scored on a single from Ryon Healy. Healy moved to third on a single from Mitchell Tolman and then scored on a squeeze bunt from Steven Packard, giving the Ducks a 2-0 lead.
The Ducks broke it open with a four-run fourth inning. With two aboard, Connor Hofmann doubled into the left-field corner, scoring a pair of runs. Hofmann eventually scored on a Tyler Baumgartner groundout and Thomas walked and scored on a two-out single from Healy, stretching the lead to 6-0.
Next, the Huskies take on Seattle University Tuesday evening at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue before heading out for a three-game series at Pepperdine next weekend.
