Jill (Hetherington) Hultquist is in her fourth year as an assistant coach at Washington, teaming with former doubles partner Patty Fendick McCain to lead the Husky women's tennis program to greater heights.
After earning four All-America certificates at the University of Florida while studying psychology from 1983-87, Hultquist played for 10 years on the WTA Tour. During that time she won more than 20 doubles titles. She was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame in the spring of 1999.
Hultqist and McCain were roommates as juniors and seniors in high school at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla. After making their mark on the Junior circuit, the duo won several titles on the pro tour during the six years they teamed together. Among their victims were Steffi Graf and Gabriela Sabatini in the semifinals of the U.S. Open in 1988. They also advanced to the finals of the 1989 Australian Open. Hultquist reached the mixed doubles finals of the French Open in 1995 and competed in the Olympic Games for Canada in 1984, 1988 and 1996. She and Patricia Hy-Boulais advanced to the quarterfinals in Atlanta before falling to eventual bronze medalists Conchita Martinez and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain.
The Toronto, Canada, native garnered a number of achievements in her years on the WTA, including the WTA Tour Sportsmanship Award, the Tennis Canada Sportsmanship Award, and the 1998 Player of the Year Award in Canada.
