Daniel Jahn, a three-year letterwinner on the Washington baseball team, joins the coaching staff this year as an undergraduate assistant coach.
Jahn played three seasons as an outfielder and pitcher for the Huskies, but was forced to cut his playing career short due to a persisent back injury.
In his role as an assistant coach, Jahn will assist in all areas, but particularly with the pitchers and outfielders.
A graduate of Seattle's Franklin High, Jahn was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 11th round of the 1997 draft. He was the league MVP as a senior, leading the Quakers to the Metro League championship. He also starred on a state champion basketball team and graduated with a 3.5 grade point average.
After seeing limited action as a freshman in 1998, Jahn had 84 at bats and threw in 10 games as a sophomore. He picked up his lone career victory against BYU and belted four home runs on the year. In one game in 1999, he went 5-for-6 with four RBI, a double and a home run in a win over Oregon State. His other three homers came against UCLA, Stanford and USF. He also picked up a save vs. California. Last season, Jahn was limited to only 49 at bats due to the back problems.
Jahn is double majoring in history and sociology with a minor in physics.
