Trying to find the net
The past few weeks have not been the greatest for the Huskies in terms of results. We hit a dry run in the finishing department that started at Oregon State and continued on into the UCLA and San Diego State weekend. Through those three games we had two losses and one tie. Although the results show poorly for our team which is now 6-3-1, our team's performance has been the exact opposite. We are playing some of the best soccer all year but we just haven't been able to hit the back of the net.
The OSU loss was just a tough match. We had a defensive error that led to a one on one break-away that they finished and we failed to equalize and even capitalize on two of our own break-a-ways. It was a very disappointing result but in the long run we'll be better from it. X The following weekend we played both Southern California teams (UCLA and new comer to the Pac 10 San Diego State). These games were very important for us as they all are, but turning our misfortune around from the past weekend was a priority. The UCLA game was a very dominating performance, but we just couldn't finish. The San Diego State match was a tough one but we just once again couldn't manage to find the net. Although we tied and lost we still played very well over the weekend and most importantly our defense sealed the leak that was there and tightened things up in the back.
This three-game stretch wasn't the fault of poor performances from our side but rather just being on the wrong unlucky side of the results. The good fortune that we carried in the early part of the season just wasn't dangling over our team as it was before. It is better now to go through a dry patch of results rather then later in our season because as we get the ball rolling again next weekend we'll be sure to put things back into place, and get ready to finish out the rest of our regular season.
