Wilson on Rosenblad: "Christie has really come into her own. She was someone who was always content to play in the shadows of someone else and just wanted to get her job done. She didn't want too much hype or attention. I always compare Christie to the wind. She's just there. She moves in and out of places and no one realizes how much ground she covers. She just finds a way to put herself in the right place.
"Christie has a great eye and has a great vision of the entire field. She knows where everyone is supposed to be and you seldom catch her out of position or not communicating. She's become a true student of the game and because she's not in anyone's shadow anymore, people are going to finally notice just how exciting a softball player she is."
Washington: Has been a model of consistency at second base, starting all 203 games she has played.
AS A JUNIOR: Played and started in all but one game ... earned Pac-10 all-academic honorable mention accolades for the second straight season ... seventh on the team in batting with a career-high .277 batting average ... also had career bests in runs scored with 23, hits with 36 and home runs with three ... logged a career-high 26 consecutive games without an error in the field from February 18 through March 23 ... started at second base in all three College World Series games ... walked and then came around to score on a wild pitch in the team's 5-0 victory over Army in the first game of the NCAA regional ... had a hit and scored a run in each of the team's two games with Portland State at Husky Stadium ... also tagged her third home run of the season against the Vikings ... made a diving save of a line drive to help preserve the team's 1-0 win over Stanford on April 30 ... walked twice and came around to score both times in the second half of a doubleheader at Portland State ... her single scored Jennifer Spediacci from third in the team's Pac-10 season-opener at Stanford ... 2-for-4 at the plate against both San Diego State and Long Beach State ... went yard for her second home run of the season in the team's Kia Klassic victory over DePaul ... tied a career best with three hits in four at-bats versus Florida ... proved to be a valuable asset versus Utah, hitting her third career home run in the third inning at the NFCA Leadoff Classic ... scored a career-high three runs, while going 2-for-2 at the plate in the Huskies' 14-1 rout over tournament host Utah ... had a hit in 13 of 14 consecutive games from February 18 through March 5 ... scored and walked twice in the team's 9-5 win against Cal State Northridge ... perfect 2-for-2 at the plate against San Diego State, knocking in a pair of runs and scoring one ... scored two runs and had two hits in first three at-bats of the season versus Southern Mississippi.
AS A Sophomore (1999): Started all 66 games she played in at second base ... committed just 11 errors in 259 chances (.958), including 109 assists, the third highest on the team ... was second on the team with seven double plays turned ... had a .982 fielding percentage in Pac-10 games, committing just two errors in 107 chances ... batted .250 overall, including a .308 average with runners in scoring position ... had an RBI double in the CWS semifinal versus California ... also hit a run-scoring single and scored a run against Arizona State in the CWS ... was 1-2 with a home run in a 2-0 win over Missouri at the NFCA Leadoff Classic (2/26) ... Went 2-2 in a 9-0 victory at second-ranked Arizona (4/11) ... collected five hits in seven at-bats, including two doubles, and scored twice in a doubleheader at Oregon (4/18) ... tied for fourth on the team with nine two-out RBI ... named honorable mention academic all-Pac-10.
AS A Freshman (1998): Anchored second base as one of only two players to start every game, the other being classmate Kim DePaul ... in 268 chances, committed only 11 errors (.959) as a rookie, with 138 putouts and 119 assists ... part of a double play combo with shortstop Rosie Leutzinger which helped team turn 20 double plays, just missing the school's season record by one ... was involved in nine DP herself ... committed only one error in 28 Pac-10 games for a .991 fielding percentage ... hit .308 (4-13) in postseason play, including a hit in each CWS semifinal outing against Fresno State ... overall batting average of .248 came while hitting in slots five through nine ... hit 2-3 with a run scored against Hawai'i (2/20) in her first game ever at the plate ... had a career-high three hits vs. UCLA (4/11) in a 9-1 victory ... knocked her first career home run, as well as a career-high two runs batted in, vs. Colorado State (2/22) ... collected multiple hits in nine games.
High School: Played only one season at Fillmore H.S ... was shortstop as a sophomore under coach Dave Wilde ... named all-league and won coaches award ... competed with Orange County Batbusters three years under coach Gary Haning ... played shortstop as a junior and shortstop and second base as a senior ... earned all-American honors at nationals in 1997 ... team was ASA National Champions in 1995 and 1997 ... current Husky teammate Kelly Hauxhurst also played on that team ... played basketball and volleyball ... selected all-CIF and all-league three years for basketball ... named all-county as a junior and senior ... was the league MVP her junior season and team MVP all three years ... holds school records in assists and steals ... varsity member of volleyball team as junior and senior ... graduated with a 3.7 GPA ... made honor roll three years and graduated with honors.
