MALIBU, Calif. - In another tight, low-scoring affair, Pepperdine beat the Washington baseball team, 4-1, Sunday to wrap up a non-conference series at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
Pepperdine starter Aaron Brown (3-1) went six and two-thirds innings, allowing only an unearned run on six hits, to get the win. Michael Swanner pitched the ninth inning to earn his eighth save.
UW starter Trevor Dunlap (1-2) took the loss, allowing one run on three hits in his three innings of work.
Catcher Ryan Wiggins went 2-for-4 to lead the Huskies' offense. Shortstop Drew Hacker had three hits for the Waves. Pepperdine (18-12) took the series with two wins after the Huskies (8-21) won the opener on Friday.
Brown, who was also batting for himself in the Pepperdine lineup, gave his team a 1-0 lead in the second inning when he lined a two-out, solo homer to right field, his first hit of the season (he'd had just five prior at bats).
In the fourth, Waves catcher Kolten Yamaguchi led off with a single. After moving up on a bunt, he scored from second on a two-out single from Ranny Lowe, making it a 2-0 game.
Washington finally got to Brown in the seventh. With two outs and runners at first and third, Jayce Ray hit a single to center, driving in Ty Afenir to cut the Waves' lead to 2-1.
Pepperdine answered quickly, however, as third baseman Austin Davidson extended his team's lead to 4-1 with a two-run homer in the seventh, his fourth of the season.
The Huskies remain in the Los Angeles area to play Cal State Northridge Monday at 1:00 p.m.
