
Washington Closes Out Fall Schedule In Hawaii

PRINCEVILLE, KAUA'I, HAWAII --- The University of Washington men's golf team closes out the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule with a trip to Hawaii, taking part in the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on Oct. 29-31 at the Princeville Makai Golf Club. The competition begins at 8:00 a.m. local time with the teams playing 18 holes each day at the par-72, 7.223 yard course.
THE FIELD (GolfWeek ranking): Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Colorado (47), East Tennessee State, Georgia Southern (31), Hawai'i, Idaho, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisville (37), defending champion Mississippi (38), Missouri (15), Sam Houston State, San Diego, San Diego State (48), UCLA (25), UMKC, Utah Valley, Wake Forest (5) and Washington.
THE LINEUP: The Huskies will send senior Frank Garber, sophomore Henry Lee, freshman Noah Woolsey, freshman Jan Schneider and sophomore Shamu Bodhidatta. Sophomore Jordan Lu and newcomer William Mansfield will compete as individuals. Washington will be without its normal No. 1 golfer Carl Yuan, who is competing in the Asia-Pacific Championship.
LAST TIME OUT: Washington placed 12th overall at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Fairfax Golf Club. Senior Frank Garber posted a final round 2-under par 69 to wrap up 12th overall in medalist play. After a rough first day, the Huskies matched the third-lowest round of the day, posting a 5-under 279 to move up a spot and finish at 856 (289-288-279).
FALL SEASON: Washington had to fight through weather issues through the first two tournaments, seeing its first tournament in South Carolina cancelled and its second tournament in Ohio shortened due to rain. The Huskies have finished in the top five twice thus far, posting a fifth place finish at the Inverness Intercollegiate and taking second at the William H. Tucker Invitational in New Mexico.
LAST SEASON AWARDS: The Huskies had a pair of standouts, including one returner, last season in Corey Pereira and Carl Yuan who both earned PING All-West Region Honors. Yuan was also an All-Pac-12 Second Team honoree and led the team a year ago with 71.57 scoring average. He posted six top 20, two top-10 and one top-five finish during his sophomore campaign and also led the Dawgs at the Pac-12 Championships with a tie for fourth place.
LAST SEASON RESULTS: Under the direction of Alan Murray in his first year with the Huskies, Washington ended the 2016-17 season by appearing in the NCAA Regional, posting a seventh place finish at Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish, Washington.
NEW STAFF: This summer, Washington welcomed Thomas Sutton as an assistant coach for the Dawgs. Murray came to Seattle having spent the last two seasons in the same role at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Sutton is a former men's golf student-athlete at UAB from 2011-14, competing in 47 events throughout his career. UW head coach Alan Murray coached Sutton throughout his career in Birmingham.
