Huskies Score Most Runs In Two Years In 19-0 Victory
February 10, 2018 | Softball
PEORIA, Ill. – The Washington Huskies earned their second shutout win of their opening-week tournament, defeating Miami (OH) 19-0 in game one of two Saturday. Amirah Milloy and Noelle Hee each hit the first grand slams of their careers, with Hee adding a second home run as well. In all, the Huskies hit five homers in the game. The 19 runs were the most by the Huskies since defeating Central Michigan 23-0 in 2016.
Taran Alvelo struck out ten in her five shutout innings for her second straight double-digit strikeout game. It was the first time in Alvelo's career she has struck out at least ten batters in back-to-back games.
The game kicked off with a bang as Taylor Van Zee hit her second leadoff home run since being installed as the leadoff hitter to start this season. That was just the beginning of a nine-run inning, broken wide open by Milloy's second career home run, a grand slam.
Van Zee, Milloy, Julia DePonte, and Kirstyn Thomas all drove in runs in the first. The Huskies would put up six more runs in the sixth as Thomas and Hee homered and Sis Bates hit a two-run double.
Hee drove in six runs with her two homers in the game, a two-run shot in the third and a grand slam in the fourth. Thomas had four RBI thanks to a double and a home run, giving her an even ten RBI already this season.
