July 14, 2018 | Baseball
NEW YORK - Former Husky pitcher Austin VothΒ made his long-awaited Major League debut on Saturday, earning the first start of his big league career against the New York Mets.
Voth, who was a fifth-round draft pick in 2013 by Washington, had been previously called up by the Nationals three times before finally entering his first game. The right-hander allowed seven runs in 4 1/3 innings and was charged with the loss in a 7-4 win for the Mets at Citi Field.
"It's been crazy over the last week, just the anticipation," Voth told MLB.com. "I'm glad I got through it. .... There are some things I need to improve on to pitch at this level."
VothΒ is the fourth former Husky player to see action in the big leagues during the 2018 season. He joins Jake Lamb (Arizona Diamondbacks), Adam Cimber (San Diego Padres) and Andrew Kittredge (Tampa Bay Rays) as former Huskies to play in the Majors.
