Huskies Add A Pair Of JC Transfers To Their Roster
July 30, 2018 | Baseball
SEATTLE β Washington Coach Lindsay Meggs added a pair community college transfers to bolster the roster for the 2019 season. Connor Blair from Butte College in California and Ricky Muzzy from Lower Columbia College in Washington will the join Huskies this fall.
Β
Muzzy, from Freeland, Wash., and South Whidbey High School, was a middle infielder at Lower Columbia College over the last two seasons, helping the Red Devils to the 2017 NWAC Title and 2018 West Region Championship.
Β
"Ricky is a hard-nosed guy that can play both shortstop and second base, and coming from LC you know that he's been well coached," Meggs said. Β "Offensively, Ricky knows how to handle the bat, is a really tough out, but also has some pop. Β Ricky is going to fit right in."
Β
In 2018, he hit .305 over 30 games with four home runs, three triples, 11 doubles and drove in 30 runs. During the Red Devils' 2017 title run, Muzzy hit .359 in 44 games with three home runs, six triples, 10 doubles and 30 runs batted in.
Β
"He's been a hard-working leader who is self-motivated," LCC Head Coach Eric Lane said of Muzzy. "He has established himself as one of the best NWAC infielders. He made sure the Red Devils were not to be denied and his play in the championship tournament speaks for itself."
Β
Blair is a slugging outfielder who was the American Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year in the Pacific Association Division for 2018 β the first Butte College player to be so honored. He was also the California Community College SID Association 2018 State Athlete of the Year for males in all sports.
Β
Blair led the California Community College Athletic Association in home runs (21), runs batted in (77), total bases (149) and slugging percentage (.887), and ranked eighth with a .411 average in 44 games. He was also named a 2018 Rawlings All-American, Pacific Association Northern California All-Region First Team and MVP of the Golden Valley Conference.
Β
"Connor brings in some legitimate power numbers and will compete immediately for a spot in the middle of our order," Meggs said. "Connor can play either corner outfield spot and also runs well for a guy with his power. Β While we like him as an outfielder, it's the offense that really sets him apart. Β He is a RBI machine."
Β
Originally from Brentwood, Calif., Blair played previously for Liberty High School.
