Joe Wainhouse Back For 2018-19
September 10, 2018 | Baseball
SEATTLE - After starring on the field during Washington's amazing post-season run in 2018, slugger Joe Wainhouse is coming back for another year with the Diamond Dawgs. Wainhouse was granted another year of eligibility after missing most of 2017 with an injury and announced his return to campus on Instagram.
In 2018, the left-handed hitter established himself as one of the most dangerous offensive weapons in the country. Wainhouse earned All-Pac-12 and West-ABCA/Rawlings All-Region First team recognition after he hit a team-high 19 home runs (tied for third in the Pac-12) along with driving in 61 runs. His home run total is tied for third all-time in UW single-season history and his RBI total is tied for seventh most.
Wainhouse hit .306 in 58 games -- including two pitching appearances -- and reached base safely in 52 games. He was especially hot down the stretch during the Huskies' run to Omaha. He walloped 13 homers over the last 20 games, and had at least one in 10-straight series, including the Conway Regional, where he was named the site's Most Outstanding Player, and the Fullerton Super Regional.
The Huskies will now have two All-Pac-12 players returning in 2019 -- also catcher Nick Kahle -- plus honorable mention selections Jordan Jones and Mason Cerrillo. The Huskies report for the start of Fall Ball and individual workouts beginning on Monday, Sept. 17.
