The Huskies' return 2019 Pac-12 Honorable Mention and 2019 Cape Cod League All-Star Braiden Ward. The junior was the CCL's stolen bases leader this past summer. He also has led the Pac-12 in swipes in each of his first two seasons at Washington. Ward spent his first two years playing centerfield, but has been working at manning second base this fall.
Starting shortstop Ramon Bramasco and utility infielder Nick Roberts return, as does Jonathan Schiffer, who made 21 starts at first base before injuries ended his season. The Huskies also welcome back outfielder Christian Jones, who was a major contributor in UW's 2018 College World Series run, but was limited to four games in 2019 due to a hand injury.Β
On the mound, new UW pitching coach Elliott CribbyΒ inherits a group ofΒ battle-tested returners and promising newcomers. Three UW right-handers -- David Rhodes, Stevie Emanuels and Jack Enger -- gained experience this summer in the Cape Cod League after strong 2019 seasons. Each will be expected to have big roles on the bump this season for the Huskies.Β
Leo NierenbergΒ leads the other returning arms with 21 appearances in 2019. Dylan Lamb (11), Jack DeCooman (9) and Diego Barrera (7) also gained valuable experience last year.Β
The Huskies will be counting on contributions from several newcomers that arrived with impressive credentials. Davis Delorefice, who spent his first two years out of high school at the University of Utah, was a Junior College All-American and Orange Empire Conference Player of the Year after leading Orange Coast College to the 2019 state championship. As an outfielder he hit .359 and also contributed on the mound, posting a 2-1 record with six saves and a 3.20 earned run average in 19 pitching appearances.
Β
Logan Gerling will be expected to fight for a starting job after posting an 11-0 record, 1.49 earned run average in 78.1 innings with 98 strikeouts and 25 walks for Tacoma CC in 2019. The right-hander was the NWAC Pitcher of the Year.
Β

Will Simpson was the highest drafted newcomer after having being selected in the 19th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates this past June but opting to attend UW instead.
