FULLERTON, Calif. – A matchup of elite pitchers went against the #5 Washington Huskies, with the # Florida Gators eeking out a 1-0 win in extras. The only run came on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the eighth.

Taran Alvelo was absolutely dominant throughout the game. She set a new career high with 15 strikeouts in the game, striking out the side three times. Alvelo generated 28 swinging strikes in the game, striking out five consecutive batters from the third inning through the fifth. The only run in the game against her was unearned, coming off the tiebreaker runner in the eighth.

This was Alvelo's 19^th career game with double-digit strikeouts, moving her to third in Husky history. Only Danielle Lawrie and Ashley Boek have had more.

Washington threatened several times, beginning with a Sis Bates walk in the first. In the third, Nawai Kaupe and Taryn Atlee moved into scoring position with one out after a walk and error, but were stranded.

		NOTES
This was Washington's first loss to an SEC team since the 2017 WCWS. In her last five starts, Alvelo (8.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 15 K) has allowed 25 hits while striking out 54. Alvelo became the fifth Husky ever with a 15+ strikeout game. Bates (1x2, BB) has hit .372 in her career batting second.

Washington has just one game tomorrow at the Judi Garman Classic, playing Fresno State at 3:00 pm.
