Washington Opens Pac-12 Championship as No. 3 Seed

SEATTLE --- No. 13 Washington has earned the No. 3 seed and a first-round bye in this week's Pac-12 Championships which take place April 24-27 at the Weill Tennis Academy in Ojai, Calif. The Huskies' play their first match of the tournament in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. against the winner of the first round match between No. 6 Arizona State and No. 11 Oregon.
The Huskies wrapped up one of their most successful seasons in program history with an 18-3 record, finishing tied for second in the Pac-12 with an 8-2 record. The eight conference wins were the most in program history--two more than the previous best of six in 2001 and 2003. In those two seasons, Washington made deep runs in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in team history in 2001 and advancing to the Round of 16 in the 2003.
In addition, Washington matched its highest win total since the 2004 season, recording 18 wins with its three losses each coming to teams ranked in the Top 10 in the ITA Tennis rankings.
This is the third season the Pac-12 has hosted a team tournament with the Huskies going 2-2 in its previous two trips. Washington has earned a first-round bye for the first time in the tournament's history, winning its first round match but falling in the quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons.
