May 29, 2019 | Baseball
SAN FRANCSICO – Washington junior catcher Nick Kahle was named to the All-Pac-12 team for the second time, the Conference announced on Wednesday. He joins Joey Morgan (2016-17) as the only Washington catcher to earn All-Conference honors in consecutive seasons.
Besides Kahle's All-Pac-12 honors, he was named to the honorable mention All-Pac-12 Defensive team and sophomore centerfielder Braiden Ward was named to the honorable mention All-Pac-12 team.
Kahle started all 52 games, hit a team-high .339 and had an on-base percentage of .506 – which ranked third in the Pac-12 and 11th nationally. He is the first Husky since Kyle Conley in 2009 to have a slugging percentage (.532) plus on-base percentage over 1.000 (1.038).
Kahle led Washington with 50 runs batted in, tied for the team lead with 17 extra-base hits and walked a team record 59 times. He is a semifinalist for the Buster Posey Catcher of the Year and was on the Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List.
Defensively, he was one of the hardest catchers in the nation to steal against. He threw out 13 of 32 runners on the season.
Ward earns All-Pac-12 recognition for the first time in his career. He led the Pac-12 for a second-consecutive year in stolen bases, recording 26 in 31 attempts. He is the first Pac-12 player since 2006 and 2007 to lead the Conference in stolen bases two seasons consecutively. For the year Ward batted .321 and led the team with 62 hits, 19 multi-hit games, 11 doubles and 41 runs scored.
