March 08, 2020 | Baseball
SEATTLE βΒ The University of Washington baseball team (9-6) shutout Utah Valley (5-12), 4-0, to wrap-up its weekend at Husky Ballpark Sunday afternoon. The Huskies and Wolverines split the four-game series.Β
The Dawgs used a three-run third inning and rode strong pitching and defense to secure the finale.Β
Noah Hsue and Braiden Ward traded spots at the top of the lineup and that was the spark the Husky offense needed. Hsue finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and Ward was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.Β Hsue's four hits is a career-high.Β
The duo got things going in the third when Hsue tripled to lead things off and was driven in on a Ward RBI double. Later in the inning, Michael Petrie joined in on the fun, crushing a two-run double to score Ward and Preston ViltzΒ to give UW a 3-0 advantage.Β
In the sixth, Ward picked up his second RBI with a single to left to bring Michael Snyder home. Snyder walked to open the inning and advanced to second on a Hsue base knock.Β
Stevie Emanuels (3-1) was on the bump and continued his strong start to the spring with another impressive outing. The junior right-hander tossed 7.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits, while fanning eight. Gabe Smith pitched a scoreless eight before Davis Delorefice came in to put the Wolverines down in order in the ninth to close things out.Β
The Huskies will begin Pac-12 play next weekend on the road in Los Angeles, opening a three-game series with USC Friday at 6 p.m.Β
