
Washington Set For Game 2 of Las Vegas Holiday Classic

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Washington women's basketball team (5-0) continues its first road trip of the season at the Las Vegas Holiday Classic for the second of two games at Orleans Arena. The Huskies cap off the trip vs. Santa Clara (4-3) for the third meeting all-time between the programs. The game tips off Saturday at 1:30 p.m. PT and will be aired via the Be The Beast live stream (subscription required). Gary Hill will call the action on 1090 KPTR-AM.
Road Trip
This trip to Las Vegas, Nev. for the Las Vegas Holiday Classic marks the first road trip of the 2022-23 season for the Huskies. Washington defeated Fordham 71-62 on Friday, and will take on Santa Clara on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Last Time Out
Friday afternoon, Washington defeated Fordham 71-62 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas to improve to 5-0. Three Huskies scored in double digits (Emma Grothaus, 21; Hannah Stines, 13; Dalayah Daniels, 12). Grothaus's 21 points was a season high, and Stines's 13 was a career high. Their combined 34 points contributed to Washington's 39 bench points. The Washington defense held Fordham to 35.5% from the field, which was below the Rams's season average of 45%. Washington returns eight Huskies from last season with Lauren Schwartz, Jayda Noble, Haley Van Dyke, Nia Lowery, TT Watkins, Trinity Oliver, Lexi Griggsby, and Darcy Rees. Fans will see six new faces on the team this season, as the Huskies welcomed four freshmen from California - Hannah Stines, Teagan Brown, Shayla Gillmer, and Elle Ladine - and two transfers, Dalayah Daniels (Cal) and Emma Grothaus (Lehigh).
Preseason Nods
Van Dyke earned Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition, and Grothaus was one of 20 players named to the 2023 Lisa Lisa Award Watch List.
