Balanced Offense Leads UW Over Furman

SEATTLE – The UW women's basketball team (9-4, 0-1 Big Ten) wrapped up the Husky Classic and nonconference play with a commanding 71-43 win over Furman Thursday afternoon inside Alaska Airlines Arena.
The Dawgs limited a Furman team (9-5, 0-0 Southern) that entered Thursday's game averaging 72.0 points per game to season-lows of 43 points and 25.8 percent shooting.
The Paladins' 43 points was also tied for the fewest points allowed by UW so far this season.
The Dawgs had 10 players in the points column, with every player seeing at least 10 minutes of action. UW's 28 bench points were the third most by the team this season and the most in the last 10 games.
Furman scored the first four points of the afternoon, but Washington responded with a 20-0 run to jump out to a 20-4 lead, capped by back-to-back three-pointers from Hannah Stines.
Holding Furman scoreless for nearly eight minutes, the Paladins scored the first two buckets and then didn't score again until there were 36 seconds left on the first quarter clock.
Washington gave up just five points in the opening frame, the second fewest allowed in a quarter this season by the Dawgs. Today's first quarter followed up a victory over North Dakota State yesterday that saw the Dawgs allow just six first quarter points.
Elle Ladine and Stines were the first Huskies to reach double figures, as Ladine had 11 and Stines had 10 at the half.
Devin Coppinger's career-high 15 points led all scorers, the first time in her career the freshman has reached double figures. She shot 4-8 from the field and connected on a career-high three triples.
10 of Coppinger's points came in the second half as she played a career-high 27 minutes.
Stines finished with 12 on 5-of-10 shooting and Ladine added 14 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
Sayvia Sellers added eight points and three rebounds and Dalayah Daniels chipped in seven points and five boards.
The Paladins narrowly won the second quarter 18-16 before the Huskies used another offensive surge to outscore Furman 19-10 in the third. Washington shot 7-for-13 in the third to jump out to a 24-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Huskies will resume Big Ten play with their first conference road test, traveling to Northwestern on December 28 and Illinois on the 31st.
