
Huskies Extend Winning Streak To Eight

EUGENE, Ore. – No. 4 Washington concluded the Jane Sanders Classic with a pair of wins over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. The Huskies won game one 10-0 (5 innings) and game two 13-3 (5 innings).
UW will enter Pac-12 play with a record of 16-2. The last time Washington finished with two or fewer losses at the conclusion of preseason tournaments was in 2021.
GAME ONE – MOUNT ST. MARY'S 0, #4 WASHINGTON 10 (5)
Nelson (4-0) got the start, going four innings with six strikeouts and no runs allowed. It is the second start in a row for Nelson to throw or combine for a shutout. In her last start, she threw her first career no-hitter.
Lindsay Lopez came in for the final frame, recording a strikeout.
With an out in the second, Giselle Alvarez hit her first career home run. Back-to-back hits by Avery Hobson and Brooklyn Carter but runners at second and third for Jillian Celis to smash her third home run of the season. Rylee Holtorf followed with a single and Alana Johnson hit the third home run of the inning to extend the lead to nine.
The last time the Huskies hit three home runs in an inning was against Cal on April 7, 2023.
Mount St. Mary's broke up Nelson's perfect game with a two-out double in the fourth.
The Huskies added to their lead in the fourth when Jing Gardner had her first career hit in a triple and was driven in on a Sydney Stewart single up the middle to bring the score to its eventual final of 10-0.
GAME TWO – #4 WASHINGTON 13, MOUNT ST. MARY'S 3 (5)
Sidne Peters made her third start of the season and picked up her second win to move to 2-0. It is Peters first career complete game.
Alana Johnson and Jillian Celis led the team with three hits. Brooklyn Carter and Kinsey Fiedler recorded multiple hits while Carter also recorded four RBI.
Celis opened the scoring in the first with her second home run of the day. Mount St. Mary's responded to tie the game in the bottom of the inning.
The Huskies added eight runs in the third. The Mountaineers added a run to make it a 10-2 ballgame.
Washington tacked on another three runs in the fourth while Mount St. Mary's added one as well to bring the score to its final of 13-3.
