March 30, 2025 | Baseball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Washington fell to Rutgers on Sunday 3-6 at Bainton Field. It's the first Big Ten series loss for the Huskies after dropping two of three against the Scarlet Knights on the road.
Washington moves to 12-17 and 5-4 in Big Ten play while Rutgers improves to 13-15 and 4-5 in conference games.
The Huskies got on the board first, scoring two in the top of the first inning. Following a leadoff single from AJ Guerrero, Casen Taggart worked a walk, and Colton Bower added another single to load the bases.
Sam DeCarlo recorded an RBI with a bases-loaded walk before Braeden Terry used an RBI groundout to put the Diamond Dawgs in front, 2-0.
In the bottom of the inning, Rutgers responded, however. The Scarlet Knights scored two of their own to knot the game up.
The teams held a stalemate for the next four innings as neither pitcher allowed much in the way of offense.
Justin Tims made his second weekend start and fifth start overall on Sunday, pitching another solid outing. The freshman tossed 5.0 innings while allowing two runs on four hits with only one walk and two strikeouts.
Rutgers added three runs in the bottom of the sixth when Reilly McAdams took over on the mound. Josh Emanuels recorded the final out of the inning and finished out the game as well, tossing both the seventh and eighth frames.
The Huskies pulled one back in the seventh when Bower used an RBI groundout to give Washington its third run. Bower, DeCarlo, and Terry each had one RBI on the day.
The Huskies tallied seven hits on the day and were led by AJ Guerrero with two.
Washington concludes its road trip to the Northeast on Tuesday against St. John's in New York City. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. PT.
