PHILADELPHIA -- Washington opened up three days of competition at the Penn Relays on Thursday with seven Dawgs competing in individual events. Relay action will take the focus on Friday and Saturday.
At the legendary Franklin Field, freshman Bodi Ligons opened things up with a heat victory in the 400m hurdles. He went 51.37 for the ninth-fastest overall time today and his second-fastest time of the season.
Washington currently has six women who have gone sub-4:15 in the 1,500-meters this outdoor season, with no other NCAA school having more than two. Three of those six were in the top heat of the open 1,500m today. Senior Maggie Liebich was second overall in 4:12.64, just a couple tenths of a second off the PR she set last week at Bryan Clay. In fifth-place was senior Claire Yerby, and she lowered her PR down to 4:13.20. Sophomore Mia Cochran was close behind in sixth in 4:13.43.
Three more women ran the 5,000-meters to close things out today. All-American Amina Maatoug was fourth in the top heat in 15:51.96. Julia David-Smith ran 16:17.10 and Maeve Stiles ran 16:38.46 in her first race since the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
