Huskies Get Multiple Wins At Oregon State
May 02, 2025 | Track & Field
CORVALLIS, Ore. β It was another impressive outing for the Husky distance squad tonight despite small numbers making the trip to Corvallis for the OSU High Performance Meet. Huskies grabbed victories in three events, with three more runner-up finishes, and one new top-10 mark in school history from Maggie Liebich in the steeplechase.
Β
Only a small group of distance runners competed at Oregon State tonight. The UW sprinters, jumpers, and throwers will be in action on Saturday in Tucson, Ariz. at the Desert Heat Classic.
Β
Racing to wins tonight were senior Leo Daschbach in the 1,500-meter invite, redshirt freshman Isaac Briggs in the men's steeplechase, and freshman Nathan Neil, competing unattached in the invite 5,000-meters.
Β
Daschbach unleashed a powerful final lap kick to move in front and win the 1,500m going away in 3:43.01. Teammate Ben MacMillan took second in 3:44.49.
Β
In the women's 1,500-meters, Julia David-Smith took second overall and was the top collegiate finisher, as she ran a season-best time of 4:15.89 to move up the West Region rankings.
Β
Briggs cruised to a win in the steeplechase as he progresses towards the Big Ten Outdoor meet. He crossed in 8:55.30 to win by seven seconds. Making their collegiate steeple debuts in the same race were Cruize Corvin, who took third in 9:05.73, and James Crabtree, fifth in 9:06.79.
Β
Liebich ran well in her first career steeplechase, as the senior disproved the old Dawg, new trick adage. She was second overall in 10:10.53, which puts her up to No. 8 in school history and ranks 24th in the West Region.
Β
Neil, redshirting the track season, dominated the men's invite 5k, winning by 22-seconds in a time of 13:50.78. Freshman Parker Mong, also redshirting and competing unattached, ran 14:21.41 for seventh, and Will Schneider finished in 15:02.09.
Β
The last Husky in action tonight was Josephine Welin, racing for the first time this outdoor season. She was third in the women's 5k in 16:55.75.
