
Huskies Open Home Slate With Victory Against Boise State

SEATTLE – No. 22 Washington women's tennis won their home opener over Boise State, 6-1, on Sunday at Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Huskies move to 2-0 on the season.
Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif had a dominate 6-2 victory in doubles to win the first match of the afternoon. No. 67 Erika Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit secured the doubles point with a gritty 6-4 victory. After being down, 1-3, Alexia Jacobs ad Marie Weissheim battled back to a 5-4 lead, but the match went unfinished.
Battling in the first set, Sherif became to the first Husky to finish in singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 spot.
Jacobs finished not far behind with a 6-1, 6-3 win on Court No. 3. No. 43 Carter secured the match point on Court No. 2 with a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-3.
Boise State won their match against Syrtveit in the No. 6 spot in a third set tie break, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 [10-6].
The dual closed out with a win by No. 66 Matsuda on the top court.
Next up, the Huskies stay home to host Portland on Saturday, Jan. 31. The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. PT at Nordstrom Tennis Center.
