SEATTLE – The Washington men's rowing team won each of its races Sunday at the annual Head of the Lake Regatta on Lake Union and Lake Washington, earning victories in the three men's collegiate eights races and the fours.

The annual event, co-hosted by the UW and Lake Washington Rowing Club, features a three-mile course, which starts in Lake Union, northeast of Gasworks Park, crosses Portage Bay, runs through the Montlake Cut and finishes in Union Bay of Lake Washington, just east of Conibear Shellhouse.

Washington opened the regatta with a victory in the Men's Collegiate/Open 8+, the Ben Porter Cup, as the Husky varsity rowed to a win in 15:05.608, about 20 seconds ahead of a Varsity Boat Club crew made up of UW alumni, including six members with U.S. Olympic Team experience.

The Huskies' second varsity eight followed with a win in its race, finishing the course in 15:20.342, about 48 seconds ahead of second-place UBC.

"The Head of the Lake is always a good test of speed for the entire squad," said UW men's head coach Michael Callahan. "It also marks a transition from autumn training to winter training. The team has been working with a lot of focus and urgency. It's great to have them have a chance to showcase that today on the race course."

The Head of the Lake wraps up the fall for nearly all of the UW men's team, which will send an entry to the US Rowing Small Boat Championships in two weeks at Mercer Lake in New Jersey.

The spring season gets underway next March 20 with the 126^th annual Class Day Regatta.
