Washington vs Portland
SEATTLE - The University of Washington Men's Tennis Team (3-2) hosts the University of Portland Pilots (2-3) on Friday, Feb. 6, at 4:00 p.m. Pacific from the Nordstrom Tennis Center. This meeting on Friday marks the 61st meeting all-time between universities, with the Huskies holding a 60-0 lead in the series.
The Huskies return to play after a weekend off, following a busy week of hosting Princeton and traveling to Texas for ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Huskies take on fellow PNW squad, Portland, in their second trip to Seattle this season. That trip for the Pilots resulted in a victory over Belmont University, their first of the year and one of two so far on the season, with the other coming against city rival Portland State. The Pilots are coming off a weekend to forget in Hawai'i, dropping matches to both Brigham Young and Hawai'i in matches that went the full seven-point distance.
For the Huskies, this matchup kicks off a weekend of play, with matches on Friday and Sunday against Portland and Gonzaga, which should serve as a measuring stick, with common opponents between the Pilots and Huskies favoring the Huskies in this matchup, as the Huskies defeated both Belmont and Hawai'i in convincing fashion.
Leading the way for the Huskies, the newly ranked doubles duo of Soham Purohit and Brett Pearson (63rd) look to build upon a 3-1 start to dual play with impressive wins versus Hawai'i, Belmont, and UNC-Wilmington, along with quality showings against South Florida and Princeton. Building on his duo's success, Soham remains ranked in singles, coming in at No. 121 in the first update this season, with an impressive 3-1 dual record and a career milestone of 50 wins. This marks the first time both men have received a doubles ranking in their careers.
