Huskies Finish Ninth, Goode Posts A Top 5 Finish At Amer Ari

WAIMEA, Hawai'i – In a stacked field, Washington men's golf finished in a tie for ninth at 40-under (824) at the Amer Ari Invitational held at the Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club.
"Overall, it was a little disappointing to finish in a tie for ninth but this is a really strong field and it probably reflects where we are relative to the top teams," head coach Alan Murray said. "Just a little bit behind, but it was a step forward for our team and I am really encouraged by what's ahead of us."
No. 5 Auburn won the tournament at 77-under – tying the NCAA record – with No. 6 Texas (-64) and No. 7 Arizona State (-58) rounding out the Top 3. Auburn's Jackson Koivun won the event at 25-under.
"We were the 11th highest ranked team in the tournament so we beat our expected finish by a couple of spots but with a really good round today we could have been a bit higher on the leaderboard," Murray added.
Jacob Goode finished in the Top 5 – the first of his career – after a final round 68 (-4) to complete the tournament at 17-under overall (199). It is the sixth-best three round tournament score by a Husky in program history and the best since Finn Koelle had a 198 (-18) at the Amer Ari in 2024. Goode had 18 birdies and one eagle to just three bogies over the three rounds.
"Awesome tournament from Jacob as he became only the sixth Husky to break 200 for a college golf tournament," Murray said. "He played some really good stuff this week."
Jack Murphy had a career tournament with his 207 (-9). He beat his previous best by a stroke, which came at this event last season.
Grady Millar also had a career-best tournament with a 209 (-7) to finish in a tie for 48th.
Koelle rounded out the starting lineup with a 2-over tournament following a final round 78.
In his second collegiate tournament, Emil Herstad finished with a 4-under (212) with a final round 70 (-2).
"Jack, Emil and Grady all played steady today to shoot 2-under each, but we needed someone to have a really good round to keep pace with the good teams ahead of us," Murray said. "It was another day of low scoring."
Playing as an individual, Brock Maulding went 2-under in the final round for a 1-under score for the event. His 215 is the second-best tournament score of his career.
"I think we leave the Big Island encouraged and excited for what's ahead for us," Murray concluded.
Washington will tee it up next at the Genesis Collegiate Showcase on Feb. 16 in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The Huskies won the team event back in 2024.
